Review: Polara Golf Advantage Driver
Mike Dojc takes a few wallops down the range with the "World's Longest Driver."
Polara made major waves a few years back with their mid-air correcting marvel of a ball. The Ultimate Straight cured hackers’ most misery-inducing malady: slices and hooks. The nifty asymmetrical dimple pattern may not pass the scrutiny of the powers that be, but it’s all good.
Though non-conforming to USGA and R&A standards, their ultimate straight and follow-ups managed to carve out a sizeable wedge of the crowded golf ball market as everyday duffers, myself included, went coco puffs for the shot straightening wunderkinds which allowed the less golf-gifted to hit a lot more fairways thus making the game a whole lot more fun.
But could Polara strike lightening twice? Their Advantage drivers sport an oversized, nonconforming 475cc head with a giant sweet spot, goosed moment of inertia and extra forgiveness on off center lashes. Couple that with an ultra thin beta-titanium face for a USGA regulation exceeding mega-boing that rockets the ball off this big dog faster than a bat out of hell.
While test-driving a 10.5 stiff shafted model (it also comes in 12, HL1 and HL3) with Polara balls, the trampoline effect off the face was an awesome spectacle to behold and I managed to smack some long in the tooth doozies that sailed into the distant horizon.
Bottom Line: It’s an excellent club for beginners, occasional players still searching for their groove and folks just looking to hit with friends and have a blast. For seasoned golfers any yardage gains will be a lot less pronounced.
The only thing holding me back from giving the Advantage the coveted driver spot in my golf bag comes down to pride, I don’t want my buddies to bitch that the only reason I’m kicking their butts is my club. Hmm... on the other hand though with a logo covering custom clubcrown decal they’d be none the wiser.

POLARA ULTIMATE STRAIGHT & ULTIMATE STRAIGHT XS GOLF BALLS
The Ultimate Straight golf balls are our straightest balls and are designed for the recreational golfer whose main problem is significant and persistent hooking or slicing off the tee. These self-correcting golf balls are designed to correct hooks and slices by as much as 75%! This means that if you slice a regular golf ball 100 feet, the exact same swing with our antislice golf ball would only slice about 25 feet – improving your golf game and leaving you in the fairway instead of the rough.
A key component of how these balls fly so straight is that they exhibit less aerodynamic lift than other golf balls. This has the nice benefit of reducing hooks and fixing slices, but will also result in lower than normal ball flight. Because of this lower than normal ball flight we recommend that you use your 3-wood or a driver with more loft than normal (10.5 degrees or higher) off the tee.
POLARA XD (EXTRA DISTANCE) & XDS (EXTRA DISTANCE & SPIN) GOLF BALLS
Our newest golf improvement products, the XD and the XDS are anti-slice golf balls designed for the recreational golfer who struggles with hooks and slices off the tee, but perhaps hits a fair number of straight shots as well, or whose hooks or slices are not particularly severe. For this player, we’ve designed the XD and XDS to correct up to 50% of hooks and slices, so if your slice typically goes 60 feet to the right with a normal ball, this ball will only slice about 30 feet.
Because these balls were designed to be less corrective than our Ultimate Straight, we were able to raise aerodynamic lift just a bit, so these balls will fly higher in general, and ball flight should be fairly typical with your standard driver. The resulting ball flight will result in a higher trajectory and longer carry distances than our Ultimate Straight golf balls – hence the designation “XD” for Extra Distance (relative to our Ultimate Straight).
